The Mass is the source and summit of all of the school’s activities. A school wide Mass is celebrated each week on Friday, holy days of obligation, or a seasonal feast. Students prepare for the Mass by being lectors, presenters of the bread and wine, and altar servers. The assigned class actively participates in the preparation and creates the Prayer of the Faithful reflecting the needs of the Church and society. All the classes receive copies of the readings of the Mass and become aware of the message in the readings and the responses during the Mass. The kindergarten classes create a banner that reflects the theme of the readings of the day and the banner is displayed for the Mass. The children’s choir leads the entire school body in singing praise to the Lord.
The Sunday 9:00 a.m. Mass in the parish is the Family Mass for which each grade is assigned a particular date. Worshipping as a family bonds the members together and provides strength when strength is needed to meet the challenges that families encounter. The students, along with their families, will prepare to be lectors, greeters, altar servers, and presenters of the bread and wine at the Offertory.
Each school day the students begin the day with prayer as a part of the opening exercises. October and May are months during which Mary, the mother of Jesus, is recognized in special ways. During those months the school day begins with the students praying one decade of the Rosary. Throughout the school day each class begins with prayer. Grace before meals is prayed before the lunch period. The Angelus is prayed school wide at 12:00 Noon as the church bells ring.
